London is the town that never sleeps for me…. I land and hit the ground running!

It’s always so fabulous and I love it!  From galas, charity events, premiers and photo shoots, to dinners, nightlife and the charm of the city. A girl needs to look her best!

Wednesday April 17th was the Iron Man 3 premier and the excitement was buzzing!! My dates for the night were Brian Friedman, his partner Danny and Hofit Golan.

Earlier in the week, I worked with the sweet stylist Anna Marie for the Face On shoot! She gave me her card and said if I needed a stylist for any upcoming events to contact her. So I did, only it was the night before the premier! The day of, in usual London fashion, it started raining in the morning and Anna was running around town to get some pieces. Hofit had introduced me to the insane Falguni & Shane Peacock dresses years back and the one I wore did not disappoint!! Anna brought kick ass golden python boots by Fury which I died for. Normally I wouldn’t have put the dress with those shoes but I loved the contrast for this event! Topped with an eclectic necklace by Jane Bowler and the look was complete.

My first stop of the day was the spa of course;)

Possibly the best spa in the world! Seriously. The Corinthia. Where they have Cleopatra marble beds to warm and relax your muscles. Rejuvenation!! Then you can get on with the preparation of hair and makeup of course!

Originally the premiere was scheduled for Wednesday but Iron Man knew to clear the way for the Iron Lady. Since Margaret Thatcher's funeral was the same day, it was pushed to the next day! That, in turn, threw our scheduling off for our glam squad. Luckily, the wonderful Shauna Walsh at Selfridges saved the day and dolled us up with Armani makeup. I loved the Eyes To Kill palette she used in copper brown. Next stop was Daniel Mikhael salon, where Danny and Joe styled our hair. Hofit went for a traditional do and I wanted a super hero Barbarella coif! It was the Iron Man 3 premier after all! Danny & I had worked together back in the day with the Pussycat Dolls and he did an amazing job again! We had fun gabbing until the car came. Of course we were running late!! Aaaaaarrrggghhh….

Audi was the sponsor car for the film, so their stunning luxury hybrid A7 picked us up and drove right into Leicester Square and the huge red carpet! Wouldn’t you know, the car in front of us had my former band mate Kimberly Wyatt and her sweetie Max!

I hadn’t seen her in 3 years so it was such a good surprise. Mind you it was all caught on the red carpet… (see pics) I remember the wind blowing soooo hard and cold! When we got into the theatre, they handed us popcorn and the cool Stark 3D glasses (which I still have) It felt like a cozy movie night party in someone’s big living room! The movie was fantastic…. We screamed and I definitely started the applause when Gwyneth Paltrow kicked some butt at the end. Girl power!! (My secret desire to be a Bond girl) All in all, it was a great night filled with entertainment and glamour. But it all starts behind the scenes with a fabulous team of creatives!! Thank you to all the brilliant artists out there that make celebs look their best!! We couldn’t do it without you…

What's in my makeup bag?

May 8, 2012

First off Napolean's auto pilot primer

will give a a flawless palate to start your makeup application.

My absolute fave foundation in Chanel Teint innocence compact( which they discontinued of course!!!! Why????) So like any other beauty addict would, I bought every last one available on ebay lol

It's light on your skin and has great coverage even without concealer. It's creamy and smooth on your face and it feels like you aren't even wearing any makeup!

Ok so I'm completely obsessed with Cargo liquid shimmer eye shadow. It works beautifully for day and dramatically for night with a strong black liquid liner.

Every woman's must have; An eyelash curler!

& Lancome  Définicils mascara

Sugar Rose tinted lip treatment by Fresh for day

Mac in Lady Danger for night

Bronzer (Natasha maybe you add your pick?)

perfume trial size of Jo Malone in pomegranite noir

...and an extra pair of lashes & glue (never know when you might have to hit a red carpet)

Get into a Positive Groove!!

April 20, 2012

by Carmit

With all the day to day responsibilities, where do YOU fit in?? Have your goals gotten a little lost in the mix? Well it’s time to get back to you because you owe it to yourself! The hustle and bustle can leave us all with little time to honor and prioritize what’s really important to ourselves. We make good on promises to other people but it’s just as important to keep promises to ourselves! These are the things that make us ultimately feel good inside and out. So, let’s be smart and break bad habits for good, one at a time! Stop skipping the gym, eating that cupcake and drunk texting your ex!!!

Habits are hardwired so willpower won’t get you far. The trick is to replace a bad one with a better one. Here is how good or bad habits work:
It begins with a craving, cue of some sort, or time of day that triggers autopilot to indulge. Say, for instance, you light up on your break. Then it is followed by a reward, like a feeling of relaxation. This is the emotional payoff that your brain decides whether or not it becomes a habit. It’s the reward that satisfies the craving. But if it’s relaxation you crave why not take a luxurious bath? Plan it after work, that way you’ll look forward to the payoff. Habits are actually a way of simplifying our lives, saving a little stress and conserving our decision making for more important details. But falling for the wrong guy over and over is hardly a worthwhile habit. By replacing one single pattern, you CAN change the rest of your life!! See where this is going?

Tell me, why is it so hard to stick to our intentions?? The good stuff is on our ‘to- do’ list lol I’ll tell you a secret... Small changes lead to big impact! Like if you exchange smoking or snacking for a walk, it derails the process that leads you farther down the path of destruction. Even a brisk walk will naturally lend itself to a sort of meditation and organization in your head that will give you clarity and feel refreshed. Which can lead to making better choices about what foods you choose to put in your temple, etc. After all, your body is the only one you have and only YOU can breakthrough!

Start small and give yourself specific goals. Baby steps are the way to go when dealing with life altering changes! Don’t be too hard on yourself. Try to do it daily, as you want it to become a new repetition. Most importantly, be accountable. I’ve found the best way to do that is by telling a friend what you are up to. Then they can support you in your quest. They may even join you! For me, that was sticking to my yoga class. My dear friend Brian Freidman has kept me on point with that;) Nobody is perfect, so expect to run into walls that try to stop you. If you’re not up to something good, you probably won’t have that problem. Just sayin. Remember to acknowledge yourself for practicing good habits and savor the feeling!

No bad habits? Mmmmmhmmmmm....ok
Sometimes a choice makes all the difference. Here are some little changes to a healthier you.

Eat healthy!

* If you gotta have chocolate, choose dark over milk. It has more antioxidants.
* Frozen veggies can be just as nutritious as fresh because they’re packaged at their peak time.

Exercise more

* Use the stairs instead of the elevator, whenever you can. Or if riding the train or bus, get off a few stops earlier to walk the rest of the way.
* After a workout, opt for water to quench your thirst. Sometimes a sports drink can have more calories than you just burned.

Stress less

* Wake up 15 minutes earlier. You’re less likely to have a morning mishap if you have time to spare.
* When pressure mounts, take fully deep breaths not short ones. This will help calm you down.

Lose weight

* Move your workout outdoors in cooler weather. When it’s below 50 degrees F, you burn more calories!
* FYI, if you’re waist is more than 35 inches, there is a higher risk of heart disease.

Sleep better & boost your energy

* Go to bed 15 minutes earlier. That’s an extra 7 1⁄2 hours of sleep a month! More time for your body to repair and restore itself.
* Instead of a coffee break, take a stretching break. You’ll be surprisingly energized!

Fight germs

* Sneeze or cough into your arm or elbow, not your hand. You’ll spread fewer germs.
* Don’t pressure your doctor to give you antibiotics. They attack bacteria, not viruses. Build your own natural defenses

Stop pain

* Try a cup of coffee next time you get a tension headache. Caffeine constricts blood vessels, preventing them from pressing on nerve endings. * Drink peppermint tea for an upset stomach. The herb naturally relaxes intestinal muscles.

So after my daughter Keala Rose was born in September 2011, I wondered how long it would take me to get back to myself. All my girlfriends who had kids said roughly a year. A year!? Well it’s been 7 months and I’m just starting to feel in my body again. It took nine months to get that way so I had to be patient with myself, understandably. Now I am regularly doing yoga, pilates and dancing of course. But just walking my baby girl and two dogs around the block can be the most rewarding feeling because we all get the payoff!

Your turn! I challenge you to take the biggies on. Question is, why? What is at stake? Hmmm, YOU! Don’t you want to feel alive?! No time like the present;)

Belly Casting

February 13, 2012

by Carmit

During my pregnancy, like many other moms out there, I took month to month photos documenting the changes my body underwent to make room for my daughter, Keala Rose. It was through this collection of photos that I wondered how I could remember this life changing moment with a permanent homage to it. Something that was just as precious as your baby’s first footprint.

Belly casting was introduced to me by my close friend Filippo Ioco. He is an extremely gifted and creative artist. He walked me through the process and it seemed like a beautiful and unique way to capture my pregnancy. I wasted no time in scheduling my appointment!

We decided to do it around eight and a half months. When the day came, I was so excited. It felt like a celebratory moment for my journey into motherhood. We played music and my fiancé Kevin helped with putting on the plaster. It was hard for me to stand still and stop laughing because the plaster was cold and wet! The whole process took under an hour; Twenty minutes to plaster and another twenty minutes to dry and harden.  When the cast was done, we discussed how Kevin and I wanted it to look. Keala means ‘the path’ in Hawaiian, and since her name is Keala Rose, we wanted the cast to reflect all the meanings of her name; A rosy path.  With our ideas fully outlined, we gave him creative freedom to bring the belly cast to life. It’s funny, a girlfriend of mine said she did a cast as well but it stays in her closet. When I asked her why, she said it was just the white plaster and when her nephews came over, they asked if those big things were her boobs! I gave her Filippo’s information so she could get it painted and be proud of it!!! lol

After a week, the final touches were made and my belly cast was ready for me to pick up.  Naturally, I was anxious to see what it looked like! The final product brought tears to my eyes as I stared at this beautifully painted reflection of my pregnancy. Filippo puts so much love into his work, I couldn’t have imagined it better!

He painted a stream of water, like a path, that led up and into a light in the heart space, with roses everywhere! Then sprinkled it with fairy dust glitter, which I’m sure Keala will love! It’s absolutely stunning!  The pictures don’t do it justice)

The experience was so awesome that all I could think of was sharing the story with my daughter later in life… Saying “that was you in mommy’s belly”. It also serves proof of how big my belly really was. :) Overall, it was a fun project that will always connect me to the memory. My belly cast now hangs in my daughter’s room as a reminder of the journey we took together!

The Holiday Season

December 11, 2011

by Carmit

With the holiday season and the end of the year approaching fast, we often ask ourselves… What have I accomplished to mark this year?  Did I resolve last year’s goals? Do I even remember what my resolutions were? Here is an opportunity. So take a deep breath and reflect upon some important things. Like what really inspires you? What keeps you going? What was the last thing you did that made you feel alive? There are experiences that can motivate you and there are those that can stifle you. How much negativity will you put up with and how much of it is caused by you?! Well there is no time like the present to wake up and start living life to the fullest!!! I know it sounds cliché but our time here is short and you can CHOOSE to enjoy it!  For example, I am a new mother and my daughter was born in September. Since then I haven’t had much time for myself. So the other day I treated myself to a mani/pedi and I felt brand new! I found that I literally have to schedule in free time to relax or pamper myself. Sometimes it may feel selfish given all our responsibilities, but it’s so necessary! Those little moments help us more than we know to recharge our batteries. Take them when you can. It's ultimately about BALANCE; physical and spiritual. Whatever your beliefs, it is crucial to take time for yourself, check in and reconnect. With so much on our plates these days, it’s overwhelming.  Information overload can leave you anxiety ridden!

So, let’s start thinking of goals now...I’m not sure if I’ve ever kept a New Year's resolution in my life, but that doesn’t keep me from making a new set of empty promises every January! LOL Let’s try and be realistic this time. Don’t set yourself up for failure with crazy resolutions!

Here are 10 simple ideas we can try for a successful 2012…

Declutter

Make this your year to get organized… Finally! When your space is clear your mind will be at ease to start the year off right!

Don't diet.

Seriously, it’s too stressful!

Drink up!

Water that is!! Loads of it will keep you healthy, your skin glowing and eyes crystal clear. Save the cocktails for the special occasions;)

Move it!

Take a vacation or plan an adventure.

Getting out of your comfort zone will enhance your experience and senses. Try something totally different to broaden your perspective!

Be creative!

If you’re on a budget, redecorating your place can be fun! Just rearranging your furniture keeps the energy fresh.

Do a good deed

Educate yourself on a charitable cause and donate or volunteer. Pay it forward.

Plan a themed party

You don’t have to have an occasion. Just do it for fun! It will throw you into action and your friends will be inspired by you!

Shop (this one is my favorite)

Buy yourself something you’ve wanted. You deserve it!

Practice being humble

The magic of being nice is that you feel better instantly- stronger, more in control and loving. Ready to take on a whole new year!

Last but not least… Smile!

It’s absolutely the best beauty accessory

Let’s rev our engines for 2012! There is so much to be thankful but let’s be ready for whatever the universe brings our way. The journey is the same, just different paths to get there…

LIFE OPENS UP WHEN YOU DO!

Just Right

July 13, 2011

By Carmit

I'm fat. I'm too skinny. I'd be happy if I were taller, shorter, had curly hair, straight hair, a smaller nose, longer legs.

Does any of this sound familiar? Are you used to putting yourself down? If so, you're not alone. Lots of people have issues with their body which can affect their self-esteem. Self-esteem is all about how much people value themselves and is important because feeling good about yourself can affect how you act, control your behavior and how much you enjoy life!

So let’s dive right in. What is Body Image?

Body image involves our perception, imagination, emotions, and physical sensations of and about our bodies. It s ever changing; sensitive to mood, environment, and physical experience. It’s not based on fact. It’s psychological and influenced by how others judge us. To put it bluntly, it’s learned.

So when did we begin to measure our self worth by numbers on a scale? How did we fall prey to the idea that beauty is external and success is measured by factors that have little to do with personal strength and spirit? We must be aware of how the images we see affect us. The impact some images have on women is profound.

At times, I admit the media and magazines can send powerful messages to girls and women about the acceptability or unacceptability of their bodies. Sometimes making us feel inadequate and negative about our bodies. It’s important to realize that only 4% of women genetically have, what we consider the "ideal" body. So a lot of women AND men feel they must go to extreme measures to reach this image of perfection. I’m sure we all know pictures can be airbrushed and enhanced, but we forget! This is why today, cosmetic surgery is the fastest growing 'medical' specialty. A nip here, a tuck there, an injection here, and more than enough implants everywhere. But how far is too far? I’m so not a fan of the daffy duck look and sadly, some girls are starting so young too. You can’t help but wonder where all the stuff injected goes when you get older and how does it look? Quite scary to be honest! Surgery is scary. I myself practically grew up in the hospital with all the corrective surgeries I HAD to have because of my cleft lip and palate. I can tell you that it wasn’t fun. So why would anyone purposefully put themselves through surgery unnecessarily?!! Now don’t get me wrong, there are some celebs that I know have had minor things done that have absolutely enhanced!  So, I’m not against it…

Here are some tips we can all use to work towards a healthy body image & befriend your body:

1. Post an affirmation on your mirror that your body is perfect just the way it is.

 2. Emphasize your assets. You’ve got lots. Give yourself credit for positive qualities. If there are some things you want to change, remember self-discovery is a lifelong process.

3. Exercise! It makes us feel better about our appearance, and improves our health and mood

4. Create a list of people you admire who have contributed to your life, your community, or the world. Was their appearance important to their success and accomplishments?

5. Don't let your size keep you from doing things you enjoy. Like dancing;)

 6. Ditch the diet. Just be conscious of what you put in your temple. It’s yours isn’t it? So treat it like you favorite pair of shoes or handbag. With LOVE!

7. Let your inner beauty and individuality shine.

  8. Be your body's ally, not its enemy.

While there are many aspects of our bodies we cannot change, you can change your beliefs which influence the way you feel about yourself. It’s internal and it starts with self-respect and a positive attitude. It’s important to focus on health and not size. Beauty is not just skin-deep. It is a reflection of your whole self. Love and enjoy the person inside!

Having a negative body image can be obsessive and also lead to depression or worse, an eating disorder. It’s time that women stop judging their bodies harshly and learn to appreciate their inner being, soul, and spirit. A women's body is a masterpiece! We can create and sustain life! It is truly a miracle. Funny, that at this moment I am experiencing an interesting journey with my body as I am pregnant. Yes, pregnant and getting bigger everyday… Talk about surrendering! As a dancer, I’ve always had a direct relationship with my body. Knowing exactly what’s going on and making sure I stayed healthy and fit. My image was not only a job but a lifestyle. I definitely have a newfound respect for motherhood!! It’s quite amazing. All the work I’ve done is now being tested to the fullest. Breathing, meditation and not being reactive when I’m not perfectly comfortable. Everything made me irritable at first. I kept making my body wrong. I wasn’t accepting the changes. But changes are growth and I’m fully clear on why there are 9 months to this process! Baby rules and all you can do is trust that your body knows what to do. There is an adjustment with each day, knowing you are that much closer to the blessing you are baking inside! So here I am, about to embark on a whole new chapter of body image. Venturing into the unknown and selflessness. More than ever, I am inspired to take care of myself in order to take care of this new precious gift I was given.  A responsibility of a lifetime! So, here is what I’ve learned…

Wherever we go, whatever we do we need to remember we are important individuals and have a purpose. I will remember to hold my head up high with confidence, look people straight in the eye, and be the best person I can be. Complement them on their uniqueness and support them when they feel down.

Let’s start making the shift together. I promise you’ll feel GREAT!

Carmit and her fiancé Kevin are expecting a baby girl in September.

Some of my fave makeup tips;

If you’re feeling tired, apply a rosy pink blush on your cheeks, highlighter on your lids, mascara and gloss. It’ll give you a soft boost!

Always use a primer or moisturizer before applying makeup so you don’t end up blotchy or flakey.

Know when is enough. Don’t distract from your natural beauty. Too much makeup can be scary up close and personal.

Beautiful People

February 25, 2011

By Carmit

Hello beautiful people! I'm so thrilled to have this chance to connect with you on the things that we all love in this crazy world of entertainment! I was truly honored when Natasha asked me to do this awesome column. This is a first for me, so I'm inviting you to send me any questions or topics you'd like me to answer or touch upon. We will cover everything from fashion, beauty and music to lifestyle and fitness. Valuable insider tips, advice and style trends. My goal is to be as candid as possible! So, let's have fun!!

I'd like to start with something that we all are programmed to do daily and never question. Our Image. It's part of feeling good and maintaining a healthy outlook. But how much do we sacrifice?? One thing I know we all agree upon are shoes!! They hurt, yet we suffer for fashion! We rationalize the pain for a specific night or event because they look so good and yes we are obsessed! It's crazy yet we feel sexy!?

A lot of emphasis is also put on being young in this industry, especially for women. So much so that it makes some women lie about their age. Wasn’t it Simon who said “You can’t put an age limit on talent.” Umm hello, did anyone see Mick Jagger on the Grammys?  A true legend can only come from years of experience. So, what’s the big deal with a little salt and peppa? Fine for a man but opinionated for a woman?!!  Interesting.

Then there are the artists that continue to push the envelope with radical fashion statements like meat suits! (Not a fan of that outfit) This must be an exhausting task. To have to constantly out do your last look? Do you ever get to wear your track suit, even traveling?? Now, don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love Lady Gaga. She is a dear friend and we admire each other. Just check out some youtube of her earlier work from 2006 at a gig in LA where she’s dressed reminiscent of Alanis Morisette. Most people know her as she is now. Her image has massively changed in direction. However, I know for a fact it didn’t change the brilliant person she is inside!

I guess all I am saying is we women get to have fun and play dress up but your true colors define you whether you choose to confront them or not.

To this day, a lot of people probably still don’t know I was born with cleft lip and palate. It’s something that directly affected my image and view of myself most of my life. Ironically, the Pussycat Dolls were drenched in image! I learned to embrace my uniqueness and I am sure it gave me the strength to see things crystal clear. I am very grateful for my experience. It has kept me grounded and able to enjoy the journey.

Looking in the mirror, we define who we are. Its how we identify ourselves. From the clothes we choose, the makeup we apply and the hairstyles we wear. Furthermore, how does it affect what we think and know of a celebrity, model or artist that we love and admire or feel we relate to. If you have never met them in person but just see their image, do we really get a sense of who they are? The question becomes... How much of the magic is in the makeup and would you still like the person behind the mask?!!  Now, I know I personally love the ritual of makeup. There is something to the process of creating the persona for each night that inspires your performance or night out on the town.  A lot of work goes into looking effortless! Am I right ladies??  But at the end of the night, I can't wait to peel those lashes off that weigh a thousand pounds and wash my face! (A must for taking good care of your skin) We also must take care of our mind, body, surroundings and sense of purpose. Regardless of circumstance and material possessions, we have everything! Independent women out there, empower yourself! Let’s really serve up all the fabulousness we are…;)
